iPhone Applications from CITThe Advanced Technology and Architectures division of CIT has been researching the iPhone (and iPod Touch) as potential development platforms on which services could be delivered to the Cornell community. In order to gain experience with the procedure for developing and deploying custom "in-house" applications to these devices, we are making some experimental software available to Cornell users who are willing to participate in our research. Software distributed from this site may be software written locally in CIT or may be contributed by an external developer and simply packaged by CIT. LIMITED SUPPORT It is important to bear in mind that any software distributed from this page for your iPhone or iPod Touch is NOT supported through the normal CIT support channels. This software is experimental and may contain flaws that users would not normally expect from production software. As stated before, your use of this software implies you are willing to assist in our research regarding these devices. As such, limited support is available by email at cit-ata@cornell.edu. IMPORTANT NOTE All CIT distributed applications need to be updated by July 10, 2009 with a new provisioning profile. The provisioning profile is included in each distribution below. Please replace any applications you have been using prior to July 10 with the updated versions available below. Once the new version is installed, follow these instructions for removing the old provisioning profile. INSTALLING SOFTWARE FROM CIT/ATA ON YOUR IPHONE OR IPOD TOUCH If you wish to experiment with any of the software on this page, you should first read the "Loading an 'In-House' Application from CIT to your iPhone" document. This will explain the steps necessary to prepare your iPhone for running CIT applications. This document will make reference to a provisioning profile. The CIT/ATA provisioning profile is a file that we bundle in every application distribution which allows your iPhone or iPod Touch to run these applications. Once you've loaded the CIT/ATA provisioning profile onto your device, you can then load and run any of the applications we distribute from this site. Again, detailed instructions can be found in the document referenced above. We have the following software available:
CONTRIBUTING APPLICATIONS TO THIS EFFORT Are you an iPhone Developer? If you've written something you think would be valuable to the Cornell community, let us know at cit-ata@cornell.edu! We would be happy to discuss distributing applications using our distribution profile to other iPhone/iPod Touch users here on campus! |
